tonight, we met up with Melvyn, Tracy and Zander in Chinatown. and i got to try the Singapore’s delicacies, Fish Head in Asam Sauce.
i first saw this dish when i was still in NYC, watching the Amazing Race. the contestant have to eat the Eye of the fish in order to proceed to the next challenge. i thought, mmm, i gotta try that dish… so, i finally have the chance tonight. i tried the eye (which was only one per dish, they cut the fish-head in half)… it taste like any other fish eyes…. i don’t understand what so special about it. maybe because there is only one eye per dish? or maybe eating eyes are disgusting for certain people? anyways, the asam sauce was excellent. i will definitely order this dish again. it’s yummy.
by the way, i’m still amazed with the picture quality taken with ari’s mobile phone… they definitely don’t look like pictures from camera phone.
we got family visit today! Vio and his parents, Om Deden and Tante Hanny, came by Singapore after a few days of Surgeon Conference in Batam.
we first had lunch at Kandahar Street, having a good yummy Nasi Padang.
surprisingly, my aunt — who is Orang Padang — said that this Nasi Padang is quite authentic. even more authentic than those found in Bandung. wow, that taxi driver really knew what he’s talking about…
after that, we walked to Bras Basah complex to find books. while Vio, Om Deden and Tante Hanny walk in and out of bookstores, ari and i went shopping for canvas printing. we’re planning to print some of our stuff onto canvas and hang them in our house. we came back with name cards, while Vio came back with a bag full of medical books.
after walking around, we took a break at Han’s at the National Library and have some drink.
we didn’t stay there long. we took a bus to go to the Chinatown and hang out there for the rest of the afternoon. my aunt walked around to find glasses, while Vio, ari and i walked around in the Club Street area and took pictures.
around 5:30PM, we took the train to go back to Harbour Front and say goodbye to them as they are to go back to Batam.
ps: reesie, thank you for the tip on photo posting! it works!! yay!
